A leafy loop linking the village to its rural fringe
The Hahndorf Walking Trail is the gentlest way to see a different side of South Australia's oldest German settlement. While most visitors stick to the main street, this easy loop slips behind the village to follow the Hahndorf Creek through farmland, native scrub and stands of mature gums.
The path is mostly flat and well-formed, making it a good choice for families and casual walkers. Footbridges cross the creek at a couple of points, and interpretive signs touch on the area's Lutheran farming history.
It pairs perfectly with a morning on the main street: walk off a bakery breakfast, then loop back for lunch. Mornings are quietest, and autumn brings a flush of colour to the exotic trees planted by early settlers.
