Mylor Conservation Park
A pocket of remnant eucalypt woodland on the edge of Mylor village, threaded by the Heysen Trail and alive with birds.
On the edge of Mylor village, this small conservation park protects a remnant of the open eucalypt woodland that once covered the southern Hills before the orchards and paddocks arrived. Because so much of the surrounding country has been cleared, the park punches above its weight as a wildlife corridor — western grey kangaroos graze the clearings at dawn and dusk, and the birdlife is excellent for a park this size.
A circuit walk of about 2.3 kilometres loops through the woodland, and the Heysen Trail passes right through the park on its way between Mylor and Bridgewater, entering from Whitehead Road and leaving by Hooper Road. Local walkers often combine the park with the Aldgate Valley Nature Walk for a satisfying half-day loop between the two villages.
It is an easy add-on to a Mylor visit: burn off a wood-oven pizza from the village, or pair it with the platypus and bettong enclosures at nearby Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary. Afterwards, the lawns and gum trees of Mylor Riverside Reserve are made for a picnic. Note that bikes and camping are not permitted within the park itself.
