Hahndorf Farm Barn
A hands-on farmyard outside Hahndorf where kids can cuddle, feed and meet everything from lambs to camels.
Just outside the village on the Mount Barker road, the Farm Barn has been delighting small visitors for decades with a simple promise: here, you don't just look at the animals — you meet them. Part children's farmyard, part wildlife park, it is set up so that kids (and, frankly, adults) can cuddle guinea pigs and chicks, bottle-feed lambs and goats in season, and get acquainted with donkeys, miniature horses, kangaroos and a pair of impressively nonchalant camels.
The day runs to a friendly rhythm: farm shows at 11am and 2.30pm daily, pony rides through the middle of the day, and tractor rides plus a reptile show on weekends, public and school holidays. Add ride-on mini diggers, a playground and a sandpit, and you have a reliable half-day at minimum. BYO picnics are welcome, which keeps the outing affordable for families.
It is open seven days from 10am to 4pm, and slots neatly into a Hahndorf day — animals in the morning while energy is high, then lunch and a stroll along Hahndorf's main street, with a strawberry-picking stop at Beerenberg Farm in season to finish.
