Hahndorf
Australia's oldest German town

Hahndorf

A leafy, lantern-lined main street of German bakeries, pubs and galleries.

Settled by Prussian Lutheran migrants in 1839, Hahndorf is Australia's oldest surviving German settlement and the Hills' best-known village. Its plane-tree-shaded main street is lined with traditional Fachwerk buildings, bakeries, beer halls, art galleries and providores. Beyond the bustle sit some of the region's finest cellar doors and the historic Hahndorf Academy.
