A heritage house and garden in Aldgate, famous for its camellias and opened by the National Trust on selected open days.
Stangate House sits in a serene Aldgate garden famous for its camellias, which put on a spectacular display through the cooler months. The cool-climate plantings, mature trees and quiet paths make it a peaceful counterpoint to the bigger botanic gardens nearby. It was named an International Camellia Garden of Excellence in 2012.
Stangate is not open every day. The National Trust opens the garden on set days run with the Camellia and Rhododendron societies, and private group tours can be arranged by enquiry. The next listed open day is Sunday 18 October 2026, 10am to 3pm. Entry is $10 for adults and $5 concession, and free for National Trust members and children under 15.
