Mylor
An unruffled hills village
Tucked into the wooded valleys southeast of Adelaide, Mylor is a small, leafy village proclaimed in 1891 and named by the Acting Governor after his Cornish birthplace. Settled under the Working Men's Blocks scheme and shaped by its early Methodist community, it grew up around a primary school, general store and community hall, and to this day has never had a pub. The main street keeps that gentle, lived-in character, with a handful of shops and a couple of cafes serving the steady stream of walkers and weekend visitors.

Mylor is best known as the home of Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary, ringed by what is often called the world's first feral-proof fence and one of the few mainland places in South Australia to glimpse a wild platypus. Nearby, Mylor Conservation Park protects remnant woodland alive with kangaroos, echidnas and bandicoots. The long-distance Heysen Trail threads through the area, and the Mylor to Aldgate loop links it with the Aldgate Valley for a satisfying circuit.
