Northern Hills orchards & forest
The high northern ridge of the Adelaide Hills, around Lenswood and Forest Range, is the region's fruit bowl — apple and cherry orchards interleaved with some of its most prestigious cool-climate vineyards.
The plan
Climb to the ridge and spend the morning among the orchards and cellar doors of Lenswood, where elevation gives the wine its nerve and the fruit its crunch. Pick up apples or cherries in season, taste at a couple of estate cellar doors, then finish in the cool air and forest tracks of Mount Crawford for a walk or picnic before heading down.
