Apple-and-vine country on the high Hills ridge

High on the ridge between Lobethal and the Onkaparinga Valley, Lenswood is the heart of the Adelaide Hills' apple and cool-climate wine country. Its elevation and cool climate produce crisp fruit and some of the region's most highly regarded wines.

The village itself is tiny, but the surrounding hills are dense with orchards, berry farms and acclaimed vineyards whose names appear on wine lists well beyond South Australia. Roadside stalls sell apples and cherries in season, and autumn turns the orchards gold.

It's a scenic, productive corner of the Hills best explored as a slow drive between cellar doors and farm gates.
