A husband-and-wife micro-winery near Lenswood crafting hand-made sparkling, chardonnay and pinot in genuinely small quantities.
Tilbrook Estate is about as boutique as the Hills gets - James and Annabelle Tilbrook tend their own high-altitude Lenswood vines and make everything by hand, from a beautifully bone-dry traditional-method sparkling to nervy chardonnay and pinot noir.
The cellar door sits on the Lenswood vineyard. Tilbrook began pouring in Lobethal's old Onkaparinga Woollen Mill, moved to the vineyard in 2018, and rebuilt after the December 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire destroyed the winery, opening a new eco cellar door in 2021. Quantities are small and the welcome is personal; this is a stop for people who like to meet the maker and taste wines you simply won't find in a bottle shop. It opens Friday 5pm to 9pm and on weekends and public holidays 11:30am to 5pm, and bookings are highly recommended.
