Open woodland walking on the edge of Mount Barker
On the north-western edge of Mount Barker, Totness Recreation Park protects a pocket of grassy woodland that once covered much of this part of the Hills. A network of easy loop trails crosses the gently rolling reserve, taking in open paddocks, scattered gums and stands of regenerating native grasses.
It's a popular spot with local dog walkers, with off-lead areas and wide, well-formed paths. Kangaroos are common at dawn and dusk, and the open aspect gives long views toward Mount Barker Summit.
Low-key and uncrowded, it's an ideal leg-stretch if you're staying in or passing through Mount Barker.
