A dramatic perch above the Torrens Gorge
On the famously winding Gorge Road between Athelstone and Cudlee Creek, Pulpit Rock Lookout is a classic Adelaide Hills viewpoint. A short walk from a roadside pull-in leads to a rocky outcrop that juts over the River Torrens far below.
The lookout takes in the gorge's steep, forested walls and the river threading through them, with the scene shifting beautifully through the seasons. It's a popular stop for motorcyclists and Sunday drivers tackling the gorge, and a fine spot to stretch your legs on the way up into the Hills.
Take care near the edge, and visit in morning light for the best photographs.
