A hilltop hamlet with a pioneering past
Perched on a ridge in the southern Adelaide Hills near Meadows, Prospect Hill is a tiny hamlet with an outsized history. It sits close to the route explorer-era travellers once took between Adelaide and the Fleurieu, and the area was an early focus of colonial settlement.
The village runs a well-regarded local history museum that tells the story of farming, timber-getting and community life on the plateau. On clear days the high vantage offers long views toward the Fleurieu coast and the Mount Lofty Ranges.
It's a rewarding detour for travellers interested in the deeper history of the southern Hills.
