Aldgate Village

A leafy Hills village of cafés, the famous pump, and an easy main-street stroll under the gums.

Aldgate is one of the prettiest of the central Hills villages — all dappled light, big gardens and a walkable main street. The Aldgate Pump, an old watering point turned local landmark, gives the village its character, and the surrounding streets hide good cafés, a bakery and a couple of well-regarded eateries.

It's an easy place to while away a morning: coffee, a wander, maybe a stop at Fred Eatery for lunch. The Aldgate Valley nature walk starts nearby for those who want to stretch their legs.

Come in autumn, when the deciduous trees that line the streets turn the whole village gold.
