Crafers Hotel
A handsomely restored 1840s coaching inn at the top of the freeway, pouring Hills beer and serving proper pub food.
The Crafers Hotel has stood at the top of the old Mount Barker road since the 1840s, when it was a coaching inn for travellers heading into the hills. A thoughtful restoration has kept its bluestone bones while turning it into one of the better gastropubs in the district.
Downstairs is a cosy public bar with open fires; upstairs, a more polished dining room. Either way the kitchen takes the food seriously, and the list is heavy with Hills wine and beer.
It's a five-minute drive from the Mount Lofty Summit, which makes it a favourite reward after the Waterfall Gully climb.
