A third-generation family farm near Oakbank making precise chardonnay, syrah and a small-batch Artisan range, poured in a relaxed cellar door.
Murdoch Hill's farm has been in the family since 1939, and the first vines went in in 1998. The Erinka vineyard rises to 420 metres, and the cool site shows in the chardonnay, syrah and pinot noir.
The cellar door is unfussy and friendly, the kind of place where you can take your time over the flagship wines and the more experimental Artisan small-batch range. It's an easy first or last stop on any central-Hills loop, with the Oakbank racecourse and village just down the road. The cellar door is open Thursday to Tuesday, 11am to 4pm.
