The Cidery (Lobethal Road)
Hills apples pressed into proper dry cider, poured at a relaxed orchard-country cellar door.
The Adelaide Hills grew rich on apples long before wine took over, and a new generation of cider makers is putting that orchard heritage back to work. This Lobethal-area cidery presses local fruit into crisp, dry, food-friendly ciders a world away from the sweet stuff.
Taste a flight that runs from clean apple through to barrel-aged and perry, with the makers happy to talk you through the varieties grown on the surrounding hills. There's usually something from the kitchen — a ploughman's board, a toastie — to soak it up.
It's a low-key, unhurried stop on any wine-and-cider loop through the valley.
